When you may have a heart problem
Not all people who report palpitations have heart arrhythmias. If you have heart palpitations, you might feel your heart pounding while you are just sitting still or moving slowlyTry breathing exercises or deep relaxation (a step-by-step process of tensing and then relaxing every muscle group in your body) when palpitations occur. Practicing yoga or tai chi on a regular basis can reduce the frequency of your palpitations. Atrial fibrillation is the most common heart rhythm problem, affecting up to 500,000 people in the UK. It causes episodes of a fast, irregular heart rate, which can feel like a persistent heart flutter, and you may also feel dizzy, short of breath and extremely tired. Atrial fibrillation is generally not life threatening, but can be uncomfortable and often needs treating.
