Pneumonia is typically caused by an infection but there are a number of other causes. Pneumonia symptoms include fever, chills, muscle aches, diarrhea, and rash. Antibiotics have a high cure rate for pneumonia. Tell your doctor about allergies or bad reactions to any medicines you have taken before and bring a list of your current medicines with you.
A physical exam and history can help determine if you have pneumonia but chest x-rays and blood tests can help determine what is wrong. Pneumonia may also occur from chemical or physical injury to the lungs, or indirectly due to another medical illness, such as lung cancer or alcohol abuse. Home care may be possible, even in severe cases, when there is good support and available home nursing services.
